I may not have grandchildren, but I sure as hell love the kinds of nanna activities that are allegedly beyond my 25 years.
Give me a quiet weekend with a whole host of ingredients to cook an elaborate meal, a new op shop to explore, a box of mismatched buttons to play with, or even a nanna cake-sale to attend and I am one happy woman.
Don't get me wrong, I still have those nights where I don't get home til the sun is rising and I lose the whole next day to sleep, but in winter especially, I enjoy the smugness of an early night and and some old fashioned imaginative fun.
This past weekend was especially nanna-esque. Excellent.
I picked up many metres of fabric at a much anticipated trip to Ikea a couple of weeks ago (their new season fabric is brilliant!) which I planned, among other things, to cover a lampshade with.
I followed this very helpful tutorial, and with a bit of help from A, I think it turned out pretty well.
Voila!
Then I had extra fabric, and time. I decided our draft stoppers were ugly and they had to be covered too (the sewing is also a little dodgy close up but a huge improvement from bland, boring navy).
As well as this, I embraced green cleaning.
I stocked up on bicarb soda, lemons, lavender oil, vinegar and various herbs and cleaned the house top to bottom.
My favourite discovery was that combining bicarb, lavender oil, dried thyme and sage in a bowl is a great air freshener. I even cleaned my floors with black tea.
After all of that, I needed a glass of wine. Maybe a bottle. And we finally watched Twilight to see what all the fuss was about. I loved it. It made me feel like a giggly teenager again.
What better way to end the weekend of Nanna.

You didn't mention nanna fashion! I like.
We're going to Ikea this weekend. To get me some mini jam jars for, haha, some nanna-esque activities - jam-making. Blood orange marmalade. From those we brought back from our little road trip.
And fabric for my necklaces. Now that you say that the new range is pretty, I can't wait! If you have scraps leftover from your projects, I'd be happy to make you one to match your lampshade. x
Oooh nanna fashion - definitely a fan!
Jealous! I could visit Ikea every week and not get bored. I bought some gorgeous animal finger puppets there too for some crazy price like $2.95. Is there anything Ikea can't do!?
The fabric will be purrfect for your necklaces! The rest of the fabric I bought is for skirts for me. My real Nanna is a whiz with the sewing machine so I am hoping she can whip some up for me on my next visit. Or I may even try myself. Lovely offer for the necklace, I will gather the scraps :)
Haha! We saw the finger puppets too! Two different groups of animals as well. Wondered if we should buy some so our old monkey can have new playmates. We didn't. More "rubbish". Haha.
My grandma is really good on the sewing machine too! But her eyesight is not so good nowadays so she can only crochet.
Can't wait to get the scraps! x
